ENTRY VISAS
You will visit Mauritania, a country that is still little known. You will discover a country, which is appealing, with a rich history and very hospitable people.
One can visit Mauritania in any period. However the best periods are those from October to April.
The foreigners must carry out the formalities of visas. The nationals of certain countries like Senegal and Mali are exempted of these formalities as well as Moroccans holders of
diplomatic passports.
The visas are delivered by the diplomatic missions, embassies and consulates. Sometimes the forms are available on line in the United States at:

The documents to be presented are:
- A form of request duly filled;
- A valid passport (generally for a minimum of 6 months);
- 2 recent colour photographs of the applicant;
- A document establishing the purpose of the trip: invitation letter (official service, family, friends, companies, associations) or an order of mission from an institution or company;
- a document proving the means of subsistence for a tourist or a certificate of scholarship for a student; This document cancompensate the absence of invitation letter;
- A contract for an out of country worker;
- Excise taxes.
N.B.
The members of diplomatic missions and consulars, the agents of public services provided with an order of mission and the members of the crews from ships and aircrafts benefit from an exemption to present documents of proof as stated by their statute and therefore benefit from a special procedure fot the delivery of visas.
If you intend to remain in Mauritania more than six (six) months obtaining a visa of long stay is necessary.
To obtain this visa, it is necessary to have the following documents:
- Valid passport;
- Return ticket transport accompanied by the documents justifying the long stay;
- Authorization by the proper Mauritanian authorities for those people eager to practice a paid profession , industrial, commercial or craft oriented;
- Document providing proof of resources equivalent to at least 500 dollars per month for anyone with no gainful employment;
- Two recent personal colour photographs;
- Excise taxes.
Be aware that that the first entry on the Mauritanian territory is always ensured by the possession of a visa for short or long stays. It is then advisable to solicit at the office of
Immigration and Management of Surveillance of the Territory, either a visa for a long valid for one year, without further needing a visitors card, or a foreigner’s card.
Children of less than 15 years can be included in the foreigner’s card of their parents. These children can also receive individual card.
The people residing in Mauritania (stay of more than six months) and provided with a valid residence permit are exempted of visa for their comings and goings, provided that their stay out of Mauritania does not exceed six months. The people eager to practice a paid profession, industrial, commercial or craft oriented must moreover be provided with an authorization delivered by the Department of Labour or with a contract of employment delivered by this department.
